Our Mission
Compassionate Counseling’s mission is to provide quality compassionate care to all.
Our Story
Compassionate Counseling was founded by Kristin Helm, Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW). Kristin’s journey in the mental health field began over 15 years ago working in a residential treatment program while pursuing her Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology. Upon receiving her Masters Degree in Social Work, Kristin became the Lead Therapist at a community mental health center, where she provided outpatient therapy services and supervised therapists and staff. She later transitioned into the role of Division Director, overseeing three community mental health centers. During this time Kristin developed a crisis service program, served as a member of the crisis response team, participated on community boards and became a trainer for the mental health center staff and community. Kristin’s love for training and sharing her knowledge with others led her to pursue a teaching position at Iowa Wesleyan University. While Kristin enjoyed teaching social work and psychology courses, she missed providing direct care and was inspired to open her own practice to serve those in her community.
